The preliminary study on the KL Singapore high speed rail link between Malaysia and Singapore is completed, said Foreign Minister Anifah Aman on 22 May 2013.

According to Anifah, both countries are eager to see the completion of the KL Singapore high speed rail.

“The high speed rail link is expected to usher the era of prosperity and connectivity between Asean countries,” he told newsmen at a press conference in Putrajaya yesterday.

The completion of the kl singapore high speed rail link by 2020 is expected to cut travel time between the two capitals to 90 minutes span across 340km of travel distances.

The announcement for the high speed rail was made in February by both prime ministers when met in Singapore for talks.

The high speed rail link was a “strategic development in bilateral relation that will dramatically improve connectivity”, the joint statement said.

“It will facilitate seamless travel between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, enhance business linkages and bring the people of Malaysia and Singapore closer together,” they said.

“Ultimately, KL Singapore high speed rail project will give both countries greater stake in each other’s prosperity and success,” it added

The two countries also agreed on a rapid transit system linking Singapore mass rapid transit system with Johor Bahru, in addition to high speed rail linkage network.
